Greetings to my supporters and brothers and sisters in the Faith. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I have officially started my work in Cambodia. I am working as an English teacher at a local school here in Siem Reap. When I first got to Cambodia and heard that my team was assigned to a school and we were going to be English teachers, I will not lie, I was not ecstatic. I hated school; it was always a real struggle for me, and still, to this day, I am belittled by some for my poor writing and spelling ability. But I knew that if that was where God said I was going to work, then I was going to teach, and I would do it with a smile on my face.

My team and I went to the school three days before we were set to start to meet the teachers there and see the school. It is a nice school, nothing too glamorous but nice. What made the school special was the teachers; everyone was a Christ follower, and you could tell by the way they acted. I was assigned to work with a teacher named Phaneth (a local and the principal’s wife) teaching the K2 class, which covers the basics of English. This past week, we were teaching how to pronounce the vowels in the English alphabet.

At this point, I was still not sure about this whole teaching thing, yet as time passed before I could blink, I was waking up to the sun rising out of my window on my first day as a teacher. Then, before I knew it, I was walking into the school, and as the heads of the kids turned to look at this strange group of foreigners, things started to fall into place. I went to my first class and met the teaching assistant that helps in the morning, a sweet Cambodian girl named Melody. As the day went on, I learned that not only am I good at teaching, but I love it. The smile I now wore was not a smile of obligation but one of joy for the work that God has allowed me to do here.

I will be working in the church that the school hosts on Sundays starting tomorrow and can’t wait to see what God will do not only tomorrow but in the rest of my time in Cambodia.

Also, I am still raising funds. If you feel led to support me, please do so by either praying or giving.

Sincerely, Luke, vagabond missioned by Christ.
